We have had a very busy start back to nursery after the October holiday! We have been visited by the Dentist, Eco Inspectors and Care Commission. The Dentist came to nursery on Tuesday 23rd October to tell us all about brushing our teeth correctly. Each group has a ‘tooth brush bus’ and we have started regular tooth brushing. The Eco Inspectors came to say hello to Merlin and Coco the Eco Bears and enjoyed looking at their diaries from last year. Merlin and Coco have now started coming home to a randomly selected child each Thursday to help out at home with all of those Eco jobs!
We had great fun learning about autumn but are now starting to think about the theme of ‘light and dark’. This will cover: the clocks changing/ nights getting darker earlier, Bonfire Night, Diwali and National Road Safety Week.
We will keep you updated about our weekly plans on the noticeboard so remember to stop and have a look!
We are very excited about our Bake Sale on the 7th November from 10.00-11.00am or 1.30-2.30pm in the small hall. Thank you to everyone who has already volunteered to help and/or provide some yummy baking.
Blingo tickets are still on sale but going fast so if you’d like to come along on Wednesday 28th November to Bonnyrigg Roses Social Club please pop into the school office to get yours. Tickets are £10 which includes the Bingo books and there are some fabulous prizes. All funds raised go back into the school and so far this session the Parent Council has used money raised to subsidise the buses for the pantomime and improve the school grounds by repairing the willow domes which the children love. Your support is greatly appreciated.

Here’s a newsletter showing what Primary 2 have been doing recently.
Here’s our October newsletter including Eco News, an update on the roof work and our Junior Road Safety Officers.
P4 have been enjoying Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. We made chocolate crispies in our new kitchen. We made a factory out of junk materials and have had lots of fun art activities with Ms Welsh. We watched a live webcast with Quentin Blake the illustrator and have tried to copy his drawing style.
We had great fun on the Dahlicious Dress Up Day when we came as characters from his books and raised money for his children’s charity. We are delighted that together the whole school raised £256.31.
This year P4 keep fit by going swimming on Fridays. P4X have been enjoying our lessons and we are all becoming more confident in the water. P4Y will start lessons Friday 22 March 2013.
Primary 5 have been taking part in the Global Children’s Challenge this term and we are having lots of fun keeping fit and learning about different countries. Each pupil wears a pedometer for 50 days to count the number of steps we take, we try to make as many steps as we can to be fit and healthy – we’re each aiming to make around 15,000 steps every day. We then add them all together and divide the amount by the number of pupils in the class to find our class average amount of steps – there is a lot of maths involved and we’re all getting lots of practice at reading big numbers! We then input our class average on the computer and move along a map as we make a virtual tour of the world, the more steps we make, the further we will go. So far we’ve been to Niagara Falls, Toronto, Cape Canaveral, Disney World, Angel Falls, the Amazon Rainforest and South Africa. We’ve learned a lot about each country on our tour and are all really enjoying the challenge of trying to walk around the world. It’s a great way to keep fit and learn at the same time!
Mr Rae has made it to Poland and is updating us via twitter. You can see his tweets on the left hand side of our homepage underneath the school tweets column or follow him if you are on twitter @mrraelps. Have a great trip.
