A copy of the latest newsletter from the Parent Council is attached highlighting what has been happening at Parent Council meetings and what is coming up so that you can put dates in your diary.
P6 are working on the novel “The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas” this term and it is now well underway. We have used the novel as a stimulus for writing and drama. So far we have writtern a personal account of “Making the Most of a Bad Situation”, a diary account from the main character Bruno and a letter from Bruno to his friends back in Berlin. This week we will be using the writer’s craft to make predictions and write the next chapter of the book. Our spelling words this term are all from the novel too.
This term we have been busy working on our Novel Study ‘The Lighthouse Keeper’s Lunch’. The children have been using this story for a range of exciting activities, including making lighthouse sandwiches and puppets for their very own puppet shows. We have been learning about features of a text and have been looking carefully at books to spot the title and author. The children have been using their imaginations to write fantastic stories about the Novel Study including those about ‘The Yuckiest Sandwich Ever!’ and ‘The Magic Lunchbox’. Some yucky sandwiches even included things like spiders and slime!
We ended last term with a very successful Harvest assembly. Primary 2 performed ‘Tattybogle’ for parents, visitors and the whole school. We collected lots of harvest gifts for the Bonnyrigg Senior Forum and thank you to everyone who contributed food items for our assembly.
The Tradey Treats tuck shop has been open for two weeks now and has been very busy indeed!! Our P7 pupils are doing a great job of serving the children, replenishing stocks, recording what has been sold and handling the money. Thank you for giving up your break times so readily.
So far the best sellers have been the cola bottles, the jelly teddies and the choc n’ toffee bars!!
We have had over 150 children join our Co-Operative and membership cards and details have been issued to all members.
Don’t forget the tuck shop is open to P1-3 on a Tuesday and P4-7 on a Wednesday.
Thank you for your support so far.
Minutes attached from the meeting on 28.10.13.
We have had fun doing this as you can see from this quick comic we produced to practise using the software.
The yearbook will include pictures of all classes in our school together with information about all the exciting things we do and learn at Lasswade Primary School.
This is another way we will communicate with parents and it also links to both the website and our Twitter feed.
We hope you find it useful and the link is below.
Our Junior Road Safety Officers (Lorna, Carrie, Abbie and Jade from P7) will be out and about in the mornings over the next 2 weeks to monitor the parking around our school. They will be using iPads and their road safety puppet friends to record information on parking at both the front and back gates. Keep an eye out for them – they might even ask you how you feel about the parking around our school! We will be using the information they collect to try and make parking around our school safer.
Also – don’t forget to enter their fantastic new competition to design a cover for our School Travel Plan.
