Both P6X and P7Y are working really hard on the Moscars project in class. Our hometeams have been established with a film theme and we have created clapperboards and Oscar mascots to display in our classrooms. We are completing most tasks in our hometeams putting our co-operative learning skills to good use.
So far the children have been learning about different genres of film before deciding on an idea to pitch to their peers about what the focus of the short film should be. There were some fabulous ideas!!
Children have learned about what makes a good narrative, how to storyboard and are currently writing a script to match the winning hometeam’s storyboard. We have created a character profile for our leading characters and P6X have even decided on the lead character’s name and image. We have used various voting techniques to select our favourites.
P6X have been using ICT to research famous Scottish actors and create a factfile on them and creating Powerpoints on their favourite films which include hyperlinks and action buttons.
Both classes have delivered personal talks to their class on a film of their choice and each talk was assessed by a peer and full feedback given.
There is still a lot to work to be done including audions for characters and interviews for jobs including director, editor and cameraman not to mention the actual shooting and editing of the film and perhaps even a soundtrack.
We are hoping to do some promotional work and merchandising to help promote our short films too.
So far though, the topic has been a huge success and both classes are fully on board and engaged.
