Letter from Mrs Fox

Welcome back everyone, I hope you have all had a lovely summer and enjoyed the good weather in July.

At the very end of last session I was successful in obtaining a seconded post as School Group Manager within the authority. This means I will be working with a group of schools across Midlothian and be based at Fairfield House in Dalkeith. The post is a secondment for two years and after that time I will return to Lasswade Primary.

During this time Mrs Doyle will be Acting Head Teacher, Mrs Welsh and Mrs Stevenson will share the post of Acting Depute and Miss Reid will be Acting Principal Teacher. I appreciate this means some disruption to classes but we have tried to ensure this is minimal. Mrs Welsh will be out of class on a Monday and Tuesday and her class will be covered by Mrs Knox. Mrs Stevenson will be out of class on a Wednesday and Thursday and her class will be covered by Mrs Elizabeth Thomson. Miss Reid will be out of nursery on a Friday morning and nursery will be covered by Mr Henderson.

I am looking forward to this new challenge but sad to be leaving Lasswade for a while. I have really loved the last 9 years, working with fantastic children, who are so well supported by their families. I believe Lasswade is one of the very best schools in Midlothian and I feel privileged to have been Head Teacher here.

I will be leaving around the September weekend and will let everyone know when the date is finalised. Mrs Doyle and I have worked hard over the summer to ensure plans are in place for this session to support a smooth transition. I have every confidence in the new Senior Leadership team and their commitment to taking forward these plans.

Kind regards

Julie Fox

Invitation to Audition

Southern Light Opera want to offer our pupils the chance to be part of a production of Oliver! in the beautiful surroundings of the Edinburgh King’s Theatre from 3 – 6 March next year.¬† Southern Light Opera is looking for boys and girls aged between eight and twelve years for their production and would like to invite children from in and around Edinburgh to an audition at the Festival Theatre on Saturday¬†13 September.

Being part of full-scale production like this is a fantastic experience and our young members learn a lot about responsibility and gain so much confidence from the experience. If your child would be interested in taking part we’d be delighted to hear from you and we can register their interest or if you need more information please let us know.

School Lunch Menu

school-dinnerCatering Services has been preparing for the new term and the Primary menu is attached.

The new menu has a few changes: fruit juice is only available twice per week (this is in accordance with recommendations relating to fruit juice & sugar). When a sandwich option is chosen it will now come with soup and the choice of one from fruit/yoghurt/dessert (this will improve the vegetable consumption of those choosing sandwiches).

P1 will receive a calendar produced in partnership with our catering suppliers. The calendar gives fun food facts, nutritional information and a showcase for our sourcing. These will be delivered to you soon.
