Rights Respecting Schools

Our teachers have been linking their interdisciplinary topics to the rights of the child.  Here are some of the plans in store:

P1 – People Who Help Us – All adults should do what is best for you (article 3)

P2 – The Senses – the Government’s obligations to children who are mentally or physically disabled (article 23)

P3 – James and the Giant Peach (Literacy) – the Government’s obligations to protect children against maltreatment and abuse (article 19) and Classification and Minibeasts – Education must develop every child’s personality, talents and abilities to the full. It must encourage the child’s respect for human rights, and the environment (article 29)

P4 – Weather -the right to information from national and international mass media (article 17) and Financial Education – the child’s right to a standard of living adequate for the child’s physical, mental, spiritual, moral and social development (article 27)

P5 – John Muir – The right to life (article 6) and the child’s right to an education (article 28)

P6 – Keeping Myself Safe – All adults should do what is best for you (article 3)

P7 – Keeping Myself Safe – All adults should do what is best for you (article 3) and The Divided City (Literacy) – the rights of children belonging to ethnic, religious or linguistic minority groups

In June, as part of our community focus we will be looking at global issues and revisiting the Millenium Development Goals – more to follow on this shortly.
