LASSWADE PARENT COUNCIL
You are invited to a consultation meeting on Wednesday 27th Jan. This is to hear about the proposed increases to primary school provision in Bonnyrigg.
The council are needing to find 700 more class spaces for children over the next few years and hence have provided options on how this can be achieved.
These proposals are set to affect Lasswade Primary and we are looking for parental feedback on the options put forward by the council.
The meeting will take place in the small hall from 6.30pm – 7.15pm.

As you will be aware, Scottish Government has funded Early Learning and Childcare places for families who live in households in receipt of certain benefits or are under a kinship care order. It is estimated that there are 224 eligible children in Midlothian and we therefore want to ensure that all families are aware of this great opportunity to have our youngest children identified so that they can access high quality Early Learning and Childcare to support their learning and development.
Please see attached leaflet and poster for your information.
If you require any further information please feel free to contact Diane Janczyk, Early Years Development Officer, Midlothian Council by e-mail

A series of free workshops and drop in sessions for parents/carers of children with Autism will be held in the Fisherrow Centre, South Street, Musselburgh, EH21 6AT.

This contains key dates for the diary up until the Easter break.
After a lovely break, Primary 1 are now raring to go and will be very busy revising and consolidating everything we have learned thus far in Primary 1. We can’t believe where the time has gone!
In literacy, we will continue to broaden our vocabulary and our ability to decode and read words and short stories. We will be practising the skills and strategies we have learned to help us read and we hope to become more confident readers as the term goes on. We will also be revising all of the sounds we have learned by building words, writing words and writing short sentences. We are looking forward to using ‘Practising Pete’ to help us go over everything we have learned so far!
In numeracy and maths, we will continue to explore numbers to 100 as a way of improving our understanding of number patterns and processes, such as ordering numbers, sequencing numbers and crossing the decade. We have all enjoyed playing games and using practical materials to add numbers together and we have been using ‘Learning Lola’ to challenge ourselves. In maths, we will be learning about time and will investigate the seasons, months of the year, days of the week and time to the hour.
We now know about all of our Learning Superheroes and we love using them – they really help us in our learning and we are no longer afraid to make mistakes!
As part of our topic this term, we will be learning about sound and are looking forward to our Generation Science workshop called ‘Ella’s Wobble’ which will take place in February.
We will continue to enjoy P.E with Mrs Campbell on a Tuesday. P1X are currently enjoying music on a Thursday afternoon with Mrs Shirreff where we have been learning Scottish songs in celebration of Burns Day.
We are also learning to speak French and so far have learned how to greet people, how to say our numbers to 10 in French and also some French colours. We have had a lovely French assistant named Alban who has come to help us on a Thursday and we have really enjoyed working with her.
The playreadtalk roadshow is coming to Midlothian.
Please see the poster attached and pop along for songs, stories and play activities.
