The Parent Council have once again arranged for A3 annual class calendars to be prepared.
They will be available to order at Parents Nights on Wednesday and Thursday and at the Christmas Fair should you be interested in ordering.
A massive thank you to Abbie Watt in P7X’s mum and dad for giving up their time to take the photographs. I am sure you will agree when you see them that they look fantastic.
A sample of our class charters.
Congratulations to Nursery and P1 who won best float at Poltonhall Gala.
The nursery children are getting ready for a very busy and fun filled last week at Lasswade Nursery. On Tuesday 18th December we will be performing a few festive favourites at 11am and 2.15pm. Come along and enjoy a mince pie and some festive cheer in the nursery afterwards! Then on Wednesday we are going to the Festival Theatre to watch ‘The Snowman’. We have been watching it on the smartbaord and listening to the music to become familiar with the story. We have our Christmas Party on Thursday at 9.30am and we are sure everyone will be dressed to impress!
We hope all of the nursery children have a safe and happy Christmas holiday and look forward to welcoming you back in January.
We have had a very busy start back to nursery after the October holiday! We have been visited by the Dentist, Eco Inspectors and Care Commission. The Dentist came to nursery on Tuesday 23rd October to tell us all about brushing our teeth correctly. Each group has a ‘tooth brush bus’ and we have started regular tooth brushing. The Eco Inspectors came to say hello to Merlin and Coco the Eco Bears and enjoyed looking at their diaries from last year. Merlin and Coco have now started coming home to a randomly selected child each Thursday to help out at home with all of those Eco jobs!
We had great fun learning about autumn but are now starting to think about the theme of ‘light and dark’. This will cover: the clocks changing/ nights getting darker earlier, Bonfire Night, Diwali and National Road Safety Week.
We will keep you updated about our weekly plans on the noticeboard so remember to stop and have a look!
We are very excited about our Bake Sale on the 7th November from 10.00-11.00am or 1.30-2.30pm in the small hall. Thank you to everyone who has already volunteered to help and/or provide some yummy baking.
The boys and girls in Nursery have had a very busy start this term. We have already harvested raspberries, blackberries and potatoes from our garden which we used to make yummy snacks. We have also been learning ‘All about me’ and enjoyed sharing what we already knew about our bodies as well as making life sized body collages with Mrs Edgar.
Thanks to this week’s windy weather, we have now started to explore Autumn. Lots of boys and girls have brought in autumn leaves as part of the ‘nursery challenge’ and we have been using them to make leaf pictures and adding them to our autumn table. We will be going on an autumn walk next week around the school grounds to learn more about why leaves change colour. We will also be learning more autumn songs and poems. We really like the squirrel song at the moment and are very good at shaking our ‘bushy tails’.
In addition to this we are working hard to ensure that everyone settles happily into Nursery and enjoys their learning with us.
The children have had another successful visit, this time to the Co-op in Bonnyrigg where the children looked for Fairtrade products to sell at the nursery coffee morning on Friday 2nd March. The children have been learning lots about Fairtrade in the nursery as part of the school’s Fairtrade Fortnight; they are busy running the Nursery Fairtrade shop and looking for African animals in the sand tray and water tray. They are beginning to understand why we buy Fairtrade products, who it helps and how it helps them.
The winners of the Christmas Challenge have been announced – well done to Finlay Cameron and Alfie Ross who were chosen as the winners! A huge thank you to all who took part in the challenge.
Our Eco bears, Merlin and Coco, are being sent home again with the children at the weekend. The bears love going home with the nursery children and are always well looked after – thank you!
As I am sure you are all aware, as part of our Global Citizenship work all of our classes have been learning how we at Lasswade can help farmers and their families in Africa to enjoy the fruits of their labour by purchasing Fairtrade products.
To celebrate our Fairtrade Fortnight the nursery are hosting a coffee morning on Friday 2nd March from 9.30 to 11.30 in the school hall. It would be lovely to see all our friends come along and join us for a cup of tea and a chat, whilst giving to this worthwhile cause.
There will be a Fairtrade stall, a Fairtrade food hamper, raffle tickets on sale on the day, and of course lots of wonderful home baking! This is where we need your support. In the past so many people who are in nursery class or whose children have moved on, have always been so generous with their baking donations and we are again asking for your continued support. If you would like to bake we would be so grateful for your time and would appreciate that all donations are given in to nursery class on the Thursday afternoon or the Friday morning.
Thank you again for your generosity and support. We hope to see you there.
Here’s all the news from the Nursery and some dates for your diary.
