A Good Time To Be 2

LearningAs you will be aware, Scottish Government has funded Early Learning and Childcare places for families who live in households in receipt of certain benefits or are under a kinship care order.  It is estimated that there are 224 eligible children in Midlothian and we therefore want to ensure that all families are aware of this great opportunity to have our youngest children identified so that they can access high quality Early Learning and Childcare to support their learning and development.

Please see attached  leaflet and poster for your information.

P1 News

After a lovely break, Primary 1 are now raring to go and will be very busy revising and consolidating everything we have learned thus far in Primary 1. We can’t believe where the time has gone!

In literacy, we will continue to broaden our vocabulary and our ability to decode and read words and short stories. We will be practising the skills and strategies we have learned to help us read and we hope to become more confident readers as the term goes on. We will also be revising all of the sounds we have learned by building words, writing words and writing short sentences. We are looking forward to using ‘Practising Pete’ to help us go over everything we have learned so far!

In numeracy and maths, we will continue to explore numbers to 100 as a way of improving our understanding of number patterns and processes, such as ordering numbers, sequencing numbers and crossing the decade. We have all enjoyed playing games and using practical materials to add numbers together and we have been using ‘Learning Lola’ to challenge ourselves. In maths, we will be learning about time and will investigate the seasons, months of the year, days of the week and time to the hour.

We now know about all of our Learning Superheroes and we love using them – they really help us in our learning and we are no longer afraid to make mistakes!

As part of our topic this term, we will be learning about sound and are looking forward to our Generation Science workshop called ‘Ella’s Wobble’ which will take place in February.

We will continue to enjoy P.E with Mrs Campbell on a Tuesday. P1X are currently enjoying music on a Thursday afternoon with Mrs Shirreff where we have been learning Scottish songs in celebration of Burns Day.

We are also learning to speak French and so far have learned how to greet people, how to say our numbers to 10 in French and also some French colours. We have had a lovely French assistant named Alban who has come to help us on a Thursday and we have really enjoyed working with her.

Goodbye Mrs Paul

IMG_3504We would like to thank Mrs Paul for her contribution to Lasswade Primary School over the last 15 years and may we take this opportunity to wish her all the best in her new position at Lawfield Primary School.

We will miss you 🙁
